Another day, another shift at Myer. One of the things that I like to do when Im working is start random conversations with customers. Sometimes, its about the products (easy when you're in the cosmetics and perfume section, with so many different types of items) and sometimes its about the news, experiences and other common life events. Basically, shooting the breeze.
So Im racking up the items for this little old woman, who couldn't have been more than 5ft2in tall at best (Gnome!!!) and we start discussing recipes. I say, before I can stop myself, "Whenever I want a good recipe, I just google it...". As soon as the words were out of my mouth, I thought I would have to go into this long and elaborate, possibly uncomfortable explanation of what Google is/does/etc.
But no! Gnomey's eyes lit up, she smiled, and said, "Google is my best friend when it comes to finding recipes,". Hoorah! We had an all too brief conversation about cheesy broccoli soups, cakes and other stuff. Im really glad to know that the older, retired generation are gaining access to information online. Not just for the info, but for the communities, the ability to share and see family info in a way never previously possible. Great stuff.
Anyway, that was my favourite moment today. Got a short shift tomorrow, from 9am til noon. I think I'll end up buying Mum some of these super-soft slippers for Mother's Day. There are some good Natio spa sets for under $20 as well.

It's a lovely response you got :>
I've been having some fascinating random conversations lately with preschoolers, though. They're just learning to converse, and it's hilarious.
"My name is [Jane]!"
--"Hello, I'm [M]."
"I'm four!"
--"Excellent! I'm 24."
"Have you met Jess?"
--"No."
"She's twenty. Why don't you know her?"
--"mmmm... I might meet her later."
"Will you wipe my bottom?"
--"Uh..."
