This one's for Ruza and Shiv who luff the Pottery goodness far more than I do. Very funny.

Spider Wrangler

Silly puss. A very large garden spider got into the house. Anything that crawls is fair game to Monty, particularly crickets - he goes bezerk for them. You know, you can tear the legs off crickets and still play with crickets for hours?

Not so with a garden spider. It must have bitten him on the nose, because I turned around to see him shake his head a few times. Keeping an eye on him to make sure there's no swelling or other signs of distress. Should be alright, however. I picked up the spider (an inch across in diameter, what a biggie!) and put it outside.

Simons Says

and more excellent comments on gays and marriage from the blog of voice actor writer and illustrator, Rikki Simons. If you don't recognise his name, he's the voice of Grrr from the most fabulous cartoon, Invader Zim.

Simons is mostly reacting to Orson Scott Card ("Ender's Game") and his declaration that gays and lesbians have access to marriage now - if they marry the opposite sex - and that to allow gays and lesbians to marry would be a danger to the fabric of society. OSC is one of those End Is Nigh neocons, who believes that granting gays/lesbians the right to marry same sex partners will basically rip apart society.

Of course, comparisons to Islam, the war in Iraq, and all the usual neocon pet topics also arise. What about America, people? *slaps forehead* Yep, even that moronic catchcry:

"....If America becomes a place where the laws of the nation declare that marriage no longer exists -- which is what the Massachusetts decision actually does -- then our allegiance to America will become zero. We will transfer our allegiance to a society that does protect marriage.

We will teach our children to have no loyalty to the culture of the American elite, and will instead teach them to be loyal to a competing culture that upholds the family. Whether we home school our kids or not, we will withdraw them at an early age from any sense of belonging to contemporary American culture...."

Gimme a break. What fucking rot. Simons says it better than I do, however, so take a look at the entry above and the rest of Orson Scott Card's views.

I agree with Simons, its "bizarre that a science fiction writer could be so alarmed that his world changes with the passing of time."
